While most of Thailand is known for its beautiful beaches and tropical landscapes, Chiang Mai is primarily a lush mountain region located in Northern Thailand. Chiang Mai is known for its elephant rescue parks and religious temples located throughout the city. If you are traveling to Thailand, I would highly recommend adding a stop in Chiang Mai.
When to go:
The best time to visit Chiang Mai is between November and February.
Things to Do:
- Explore Chiang Mai Old Town
- Take a cooking class to learn how to make traditional Thai cuisine
- Visit the Elephant Nature Park: Be sure to book an elephant park that focuses on the rehabilitation of the elephants. Visitors have an opportunity to interact with the animals in their natural environment and can feed the elephants, bath the elephants, etc (just not ride them). For suggestions, please feel free to send us an email.
- Night Market: The market is usually open every night from 6pm to 10:30pm. There are many stalls selling all sorts of items including crafts, souvenirs, art, etc.
- Doi Suthep is one of the most famous hikes in Chiang Mai to the Doi Suthep temple. The hike is roughly 3.9 miles and has over 306 stairs.
