• Due to its location in northwest Europe, Amsterdam can get cold in the winter. The best time to visit Amsterdam is mid-April to June and September to November. June-August is tourist high season.

• Amsterdam is a popular year-round destination because of the variety of activities for all types of travelers

• The Tulip Festival which happens during April and May is another popular time of year to visit Amsterdam.

Activities:

• Rent a Bike: Biking is the most common way to get around Amsterdam. One of the top things to do in Amsterdam is to explore the city by bike.

• Jordaan: This is where you will see all the beautiful canal houses and incredible shops, restaurants, and cafes.

• Nine Streets: The Nine Streets are located in the Jordaan neighborhood. This area has a ton restaurants, shopping stores, boutiques, and art galleries. It is the perfect afternoon to walk through this charming neighborhood shopping, eating, and exploring.

MUSEUMS/Tours:

• Anne Frank Museum: The Anne Frank Museum, a very popular museum in visit in Amsterdam, shows how Anne Frank lived at the time of World War II and the Holocaust. This museum requires reservations way ahead of time.

• Canal tour: Take a boat ride through the world famous Amsterdam canals. This is a great way to learn about the history of the city as well as see some of the key landmarks and sites.

• Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum: Two of the most famous museums in Amsterdam. The Van Gogh Museum houses the largest collection of Van Gogh artwork in the world. The Rijksmuseum is Amsterdam’s history museum.

• Heineken Experience: One of the most famous beer companies in the world, Heineken started in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Visit the Heineken Experience to learn about about the history and the brewing process of Heineken beer.

Markets:

• Flower Market: Visit the only floating flower market in the world located on Singel Canal. As Amsterdam is known for its flowers, you will see all sorts of varieties in the market. You can also purchase your own seeds to plant your own flowers in your own garden.

SEASONAL EVENTS:

• Tulip Festival: One of the highlights of visiting Amsterdam is to come during the Tulip Festival. This is when you will see the bright colors of the blooming tulips. We were supposed to go see the festival in 2020 but due to Covid our plans changed- Hopefully will be able to see them soon!

FOOD:

• Foodhallen: Another recommendation in Amsterdam is to visit Foodhallen, a food market with a variety of different types of cuisines.

• Try Stroopwafel: While in Amsterdam, you must try Stroopwafels, which is a popular Dutch dessert.
